Investor Appeals to Cambodian Authorities Over YY Capital Allegations
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia β A shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally requested the intervention of Cambodian authorities amid a dispute involving the companyβs chairman, Yamada Taihei. The investor claims that Yamada, a Japanese national, engaged in misconduct that resulted in financial losses and breaches of trust.
In letters sent to government officials, including the Ministry of Justice, the investor alleges that multiple real estate transactions in Cambodia were manipulated through inflated purchase prices. Preliminary assessments indicate that around $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal benefit and that of others.
The investor further claims that fictitious business arrangements were created, including loan deals exceeding $7 million, alongside document forgery and large-scale cash diversions executed through shell companies linked to Yamada and his associates. Some of these funds are alleged to have been transferred to an overseas bank account in the name of Yamadaβs wife, Ye Jun.
According to the letters, Yamada is said to have established shell companies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, using nominees while directly controlling the related bank accounts and financial operations.
Cambodian prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and other individuals. Court orders have frozen several assets and bank accounts. Authorities in multiple countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, are also reportedly investigating allegations of embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The investor urged Cambodian authorities to carry out a comprehensive and impartial investigation, expressing concern that potential interference could allow suspects to evade accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
At present, these remain allegations from the investor, and investigations are ongoing in Cambodia and abroad.
